Tayside ferret rescue (TFR) was established in 2006 in the city of Dundee,we are now based in Blairgowrie, with the objectives to provide a rescue/re-homing service for unwanted ferrets.
We also rescue abandoned and injured ferrets through out Scotland.
TFR is run between two regions, Tayside region and the Grampian region.
Steve& Linda are theTayside representatives, they both deal with ferret surrenders and ferret boarding for the Tayside and Fife regions and covering other parts of Scotland.
Nina is the Grampian representative who deals with ferret surrenders for the Grampian area.
Nina is based in South Aberdeenshire and is able to provide a collection service/drop off point for ferrets in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and North Angus. Ferrets will be surrendered as per the usual T.F.R policy and will be transported for re homing to T.F.R in Blairgowrie.
Unfortunately ferrets are neglected in the UK, there are hundreds of unwanted ferrets in rescue centres throughout Britain.
This number doesn't include the ferrets which were released into the wild by irresponsible owners who had grown bored with them
Re homing a ferret from a rescue is better than getting one from a newspaper.A rescue can tell you what the ferret is like and what ferret would suit you as they have been monitored for their temperament.
Never phone a rescue on a spur of the moment, too many people phone then don't turn up, this just wastes time,If you phone the rescue for an appointment and you can't make it ,phone and let the rescue know.
Thinking about keeping a ferret?
Our advice would be to think about it,and think again,Make sure you are 110% certain,Read up on them and basic ferret husbandry, there are plenty books, websites available.
Tayside ferret rescue recommends the following British books.
The complete book of ferrets.
By Val porter&Nicholas brown.
Complete guide to ferrets.
By James McKay.
Both of these books are available online and in book shops.
Many ferrets die due to health problems arising from their owner’s lack of ferret care knowledge i.e. diet problems, stress, cruelty and in the case of jills – aplastic anemia if she is left in season.
Something else to think about.
Remember that a ferret can live for as long as ten years, so the commitment has to be there along with a lot of thought about vet bills, they are not cheap and you should be able to afford such things as jabs, ear treatment, nail clipping and any other necessary medical care needed for your ferret.
Tayside ferret rescue neuter most of their adult ferrets before they go for re homing, although we cannot take kits for this operation, the owner must sign an agreement to have their kit neutered when he/she reaches sexual maturity.
Tayside Ferret Rescue usually have ferrets in for rehoming, please contact us for availabilty.
If you have any questions, or think you are the right person to offer a ferret a second chance of a happy home. Then contact the rescue for details. Please take a moment to sign our guestbook.
