Tayside ferret rescue are a non profit organisation.

Unfortunately ferrets are neglected in the UK, there are hundreds of unwanted ferrets in rescue centres throughout Britain, and this number doesn't include the ferrets which were released into the wild by irresponsible owners who had grown bored with them.

Tayside ferret rescue was established in 2006 in the city of Dundee, TFR are now based in Blairgowrie, with the objectives to provide care and a re-homing service for unwanted ferrets and finding the ferrets a good forever home.

Steve& Linda both run Tayside ferret rescue, they both deal with surrenders and abandoned ferrets from all over Scotland. Ferret boarding is also available.

Re homing a ferret from a rescue is better than getting one from a newspaper. A rescue can tell you what the ferret is like and what ferret would suit you as they have been monitored for their temperament.

All ferrets that come into the rescue will be examined by a veterinary surgeon as necessary.

Tayside ferret rescue neuter most of the adult ferrets before they are re homed, although ferrets under the age of six months old cannot go for this procedure.New owners will be asked to sign an agreement to have this done when the ferret reaches maturity.

Thinking about keeping a ferret?

Our advice would be to think about it, and think again. Make sure you are 110% certain, never phone a rescue on a spur of the moment, read up on them and learn some basic ferret husbandry, many ferrets die due to health problems arising from their owner’s lack of ferret care and knowledge.

Something else to think about.

Remember that a ferret can live for as long as ten years, so the commitment has to be there along with a lot of thought about vet bills, they are not cheap and you should be able to afford such things as jabs, ear treatment, nail clipping and any other necessary medical care needed for your ferret.

Tayside ferret rescue recommends the following British books.

The complete book of ferrets. By Val Porter & Nicholas Brown.

Complete guide to ferrets. By James McKay.
